New Jersey Mayor Gina LaPlaca was filmed losing her balance while being arrested on suspicion of drunk driving while her young son was in the car.

Footage released by police shows the moment officers approach LaPlaca outside her home on March 17, St. Patrick's Day.

She is seen getting her son out of the car seat, but then loses her balance at least twice.

A Lumberton police officer tells him: We've received several reports that you ran a red light and were driving erratically.

"Oh, sorry," LaPlaca replies.

According to a police complaint, a witness recorded a video showing him walking dangerously and almost hitting an electric pole.

In police footage, it can be seen that the side mirror of her car is damaged.

During the field sobriety test, LaPlaca was asked to stand on one leg but lost her balance. In her car, police found a bottle of sparkling water and a small bottle of liquor.

At the police station, an officer is heard saying that her blood alcohol level was so high that she had to be taken to the hospital.

The incident has sparked strong reactions in the Lumberton community, with residents calling for her resignation.

"Our city is in a very difficult situation," Amy Callahan, a local entrepreneur, told NBC News.

"To move forward as a community, I believe she cannot continue to be part of the city council."

Another committee member, Terrance Benson, also called for her resignation.

"My personal opinion is that the mayor should resign and focus on her health," he said.

Meanwhile, her husband, Jason Carty, reacted on social media after the arrest, saying she has struggled with addiction.
