Several Tesla cars have been burned in a suspected arson attack at a car dealership in France.

An investigation has been opened into the incident near the southern city of Toulouse, which left eight vehicles burned and four seriously damaged.

According to the prosecutor's office, there is evidence that the fire "was not accidental at all."

Philippe Guyot, mayor of Plaisance-du-Touch, told AFP that firefighters quickly determined the cause of the fire was criminal, adding that the commercial premises were not targeted.

A number of anti-Tesla actions have taken place in Europe since Elon Musk's rapprochement with Donald Trump, the US president, his support for European far-right parties, and attacks on diversity.

In Germany, left-wing activists projected a giant image of Musk making a gesture that has been compared to a Nazi salute along with the word "heil" at Tesla's Berlin factory.

Germany's Center for Political Beauty and the UK group Led By Donkeys projected a photo of Musk with his arm outstretched, which he took at a Trump rally in January, onto the nine-meter-high building on Wednesday night.

They also designed the words "heil" and "boycott" alongside the Tesla logo, which read "heil Tesla" or "boycott Tesla."

Activists projected a video showing Musk's Twitter posts in support of Germany's far-right Alternative for Germany party.
