Ukraine destroys bridges in Kherson, Russian troops isolated

Ukraine says it has taken out another bridge that is vital for Russian forces invading the southern region of Kherson.

She stated that the bridge at the dam in Nova Kakhovka - which she has attacked before - is now unpassable. The claim has not been independently verified.

This comes just weeks after the main Antonovsky Bridge was taken out of operation by Ukrainian forces.

Ukraine is waging a counteroffensive in the city of Kherson, which Russia invaded in the early days of the war.

"The destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam road bridge was secured. It was taken out of office," the Ukrainian Army Operational Command posted on Facebook.

In a daily intelligence update, defence officials in the United Kingdom said ukrainian-precision attacks likely made the road crossing over the Dnieper River "unusable for heavy military vehicles". Nova Kakhovka lies about 55 km (34 miles) north-east of Kherson.

Russian forces had only managed to make surface repairs on the main Antonovsky Bridge, officials said, for which Western military sources said it was "completely unusable" after a Himars artillery rocket attack last month.

The main railway bridge near Kherson was also damaged last week, the U.K. update said.

"Even if Russia manages to make significant repairs to the bridges, they will remain a key censorship," the United Kingdom's defence ministry said.

Thousands of Russian troops west of the river were now "almost certainly hanging at only two pontoon ferry crossing points" for land supplies.

Military analysts say there is a growing risk that troops will be cut off from the rest of the main Russian invading forces.
