Twitter has been fined $350,000 for failing to immediately comply with a Justice Department search warrant for data related to former President Donald Trump's account.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit rejected the appeal by Elon Musk's social media platform.

Special counsel Jack Smith, who has been investigating former President Trump in a dual affair since late last year, obtained a search warrant in January for records related to Trump's account.

The fine was imposed for the delay of compliance, according to court records obtained by the Washington Examiner.

The details were included in the federal appeals court ruling that rejected the tech company's claim that a lower court judge had erred that deemed the company in contempt and imposed the fine.

The court "found pro-prone cause to search the Twitter account for evidence of criminal offences," according to the filing. The request for access to data was met and why delayed.
