Putin challenges the West: He can 'prove' it when he wants to defeat
Vladimir Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin criticizes the West for trying to impose a "new world order" and says peace talks are becoming more distant as the conflict continues.

During a televised speech, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that if the West wants to challenge Russia to a fight, politicians from those countries are welcome to try. "Today we hear that they want to defeat us on the battlefield. What can I say about that? Let them try it," Putin said in his speech.

According to Russian media agency Interfax, the Russian president also accused the West of trying to impose its "new world order," saying that "these efforts are doomed to failure."

Putin also said that Russia's "special operation" - as Moscow officially calls the invasion of Ukraine - was the beginning of a development towards a "multipolar world".

Putin also talked about peace negotiations in the speech, but said they were becoming more difficult to achieve because of the long-running conflict.

"Everyone should know that, in general, we still haven't started anything seriously," he added. "At the same time, we do not reject peace talks. But those who reject them, they should know that the further they go, the more difficult it will be for them to negotiate with us."
