Cleaning workers win lottery $1.4 million: We don't quit
Cleaning workers in India

Women cleaning workers in India have won the lottery of 1.4 million euros.

The women, who collect non-biodegradable waste from households in the city of Parappanangadi – typically earn around 250 rupees a day ($3).

But this wind, luck brightened after they had gathered money together to buy a lottery ticket.

One of the winners, Mrs Baby, lost her home to devastating floods in 2018 and is now planning to rebuild her home and pay off her debts.

But none of the 11 women intend to quit. Indeed, the day after their victory, they all showed up as usual for their jobs.

"We decided on one thing. We will not leave this work because it was this collective that brought us prosperity," said one winner, Mrs. Leela.
