A serious incident has shaken Igoumenitsa in Greece, where a 25-year-old woman was murdered by her 27-year-old ex-partner.

According to authorities, the young man admitted to the crime and stated that everything happened after a fierce conflict between them.

The girl, identified as Penelope, had been working for more than a year at a mussel farming company. One of her colleagues described her as an educated and very nice girl, saying she had studied biology and was working in her profession.

According to the suspect's testimony, an argument had started between him and the 25-year-old woman, and one of the issues they were discussing was related to a financial obligation. The head of the Thesprot police union, Vasilis Nakos, said that the 27-year-old claimed that he owed the girl money and that he had met with her to resolve the matter.

After the conflict, he allegedly stabbed her in the neck and then fled the scene.

The 25-year-old was later found bleeding and unconscious in a structure near the bike path. Emergency crews who arrived at the scene pronounced her dead.

In his first contacts with the police, the 27-year-old claimed that he and his ex-partner had been attacked by four people with their faces covered, who then left.

Later, according to authorities, he changed his testimony and admitted to attacking the 25-year-old after the argument. Police were able to locate him a short time later.

The young man was found with wounds to his chest, which he allegedly inflicted on himself. He was initially transported to the Igoumenitsa hospital and then to the Filati General Hospital, where his life is out of danger.

According to information reported by Greek media, he and the victim had been in a relationship, but had broken up about a month ago. Authorities are also investigating the history of their relationship to fully elucidate the circumstances that led to the murder.

The 25-year-old's colleagues have expressed shock over the incident, stating that they still can't believe what happened. (TCH)
