Patrick Clancy has spoken out for the first time in detail about the tragic moments that followed the murder of his three children by his ex-wife, Lindsay Clancy. In an interview with CBS News' "60 Minutes," he spoke about her state of mind before the incident, the moments when she found the children, and the last four days of her young son, Callan's, life.

"The peak of Lindsay's illness came in December. She suffered from severe sleep deprivation, deep depression, and intrusive thoughts, including suicidal thoughts," Patrick said.

According to him, Lindsay's problems appeared a few months after the birth of her third child. He confessed that in October 2022 she had started having sleepless nights, while in December her condition had deteriorated significantly.

"I didn't know about perinatal mental illness and I didn't know how to manage it. I'm sure I didn't see many of the signs," he said.

In late December, Lindsay was hospitalized for depression and released a few days later. On January 7, the family celebrated the birthday of their eldest daughter, Cora.

But a few days later tragedy struck.

Patrick said that he had left the house that evening to get dinner. When he returned, he found his wife in the yard, having thrown herself from the second floor in an attempt to end her life. She also had wounds to her neck and wrists.

Then, he went down to the basement, where he found the three children.

Cora and Dawson were already dead, while Callan, just eight months old, was still alive.

"I remember thinking, 'At least leave me one. At least one child that I can raise as best I can and that will tell him about his sister and brother,'" he confessed.

Callan was airlifted to a Boston hospital, but his condition was critical. He fought for his life for four more days.

"I'm so grateful for those days. I apologized to him, held him tightly in my arms, and he died in my arms," Patrick said.

After the incident, Patrick asked Lindsay if she remembered killing the children. According to him, she told him that it all seemed like a dream.

During the trial, defense attorneys stated that Lindsay had testified that, that afternoon, while she was home alone with her children, she had heard a voice telling her that the time had come to kill the children and herself.

The defense argued that Lindsay was not criminally responsible for her actions due to postpartum psychosis, which they said she suffered from after the birth of her third child.

Patrick, who also testified during the trial, said he had seen significant changes in his ex-wife after her last pregnancy. She had previously struggled with anxiety and depression after the birth of her first two children.

"I believe I did the best I could with what I had available at the time. And I live with the consequences. I live with them every day," he said.

He also spoke about online accusations and conspiracy theories that portrayed him as the real perpetrator of the murders, even though he has not been officially investigated for them.

Patrick said these claims have been "deeply damaging to my children's legacy" and that they distract from the issue of perinatal mental health.

He also admitted that after the tragedy he had considered ending his life.

"I didn't think I would make it to 35. And, at the time, that didn't bother me at all," he confessed.

In April 2023, Patrick moved to New York, seeking to live away from the public eye. He then met his second wife, Rachel Danis, whom he married in April of this year.

The couple is currently expecting a child.

"I can't wait to talk to them about their brothers and sisters," Patrick said.

Meanwhile, Lindsay Clancy is in Tewksbury Hospital in Massachusetts. Her first trial was miscarried after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict after about 40 hours of deliberations.

The next hearing is scheduled for September 29, while it remains to be seen whether the prosecution will request a new trial for the deaths of the three children.
