A heated confrontation reportedly took place at the G7 ministerial meeting between EU High Representative Kaja Kallas and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

As Axios reports, Kallas asked Rubio when the United States would take a tough stance on Russia.

The question was phrased directly and Rubio reacted with irritation.

According to three sources, this situation followed a "tense confrontation", which the American newspaper described as "symptomatic of the mutual distrust between the United States and many of its European allies", particularly regarding Ukraine.

According to Axios, Kallas pointed out to Rubio that a year earlier, again during a G7 meeting, he had stated that if Moscow obstructed US efforts to end the war, they would lose patience and take further action against the Kremlin.

"After a year, Russia has not moved. When will your patience run out? " Kallas asked.

"We are doing our best to end the war. If you think you can do better, go ahead. We will withdraw," Rubio replied, raising his voice.

The US Secretary of State stated that the United States is trying to engage with both sides, although it is only helping one of them, Ukraine, by providing weapons, intelligence and other support.

After the heated exchange, several European ministers in the room intervened to reiterate their desire for the United States to continue pursuing diplomatic channels between Russia and Ukraine. According to sources for Axios, after the meeting, Rubio and Kallas briefly stepped aside to calm the situation.
