PDK blocks the entry of the Government again: Kurti should return to the

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has again come out in front of the Government building today, blocking the entrance in protest against the non-continuation of the constitutive session of the Assembly. The PDK has warned that it will send a letter again to the chairman of the constitutive session, Avni Dehari, with the request that he call for the continuation of the session and enable the constitution of the Assembly. The PDK MP, Eliza Hoxha, called on the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, to return to the Assembly and contribute to unblocking the process.

"Kurti must understand that instead of sabotaging the Assembly, he should come there and create opportunities to constitute the Assembly," Hoxha declared, demanding that Kurti propose a candidate for Speaker of the Assembly.

She emphasizes that no political entity can be above the state and the Constitution of Kosovo. Hoxha accused Kurti and his ministers of remaining in government positions even after the certification of the election results, while demanding the return of institutions to "constitutional order and normality."

The PDK and the Alliance have continued to demand the constitutive session, accusing the Vetevendosje Movement of blocking the process. On Sunday, deputies from these parties attempted to enter the Assembly hall, but found the door closed.

The political impasse is related to the failure to elect the Speaker of the Assembly. The deputies of the new legislature have taken the oath, but on the agenda item for the proposal of the Speaker of the Parliament, Albin Kurti has refused to present a candidate, linking the constitution of the Assembly to reaching a political agreement on the election of the President.

The chairman of the constitutive session, Avni Dehari, has called for dialogue and agreement between political parties. He has warned that continuing the session without an agreement could further tense the situation and increase the risk of physical clashes within the Assembly.

Meanwhile, the Vetëvendosje Movement and its allies from the communities have the necessary numbers to constitute the Assembly and form the Government. To elect the President, however, the participation of at least 80 MPs in the first two rounds is required. If the President is not elected within the constitutional 60-day deadline, the Assembly is dissolved and the country goes to new elections.

Kosovo continues to face a protracted institutional crisis, following a series of electoral processes and unsuccessful attempts to form and operationalize institutions. The June 7 elections were held after previous crises over the constitution of the Assembly and the formation of the Government. The LVV won 53 seats in the Assembly, the PDK 22, the LDK 18 and the AAK seven. Now, the impasse has shifted to the constitution of the new legislature and the election of the president.
