A few days after Tedi Blushi confirmed the creation of the Freedom Party parliamentary group, Republican leader Fatmir Mediu declares that they are in talks with the Democratic Party to create other opposition groups.
Not only Ilir Meta, but also the historical allies of the Democratic Party are waiting for Sali Berisha to pay his last respects.
On the eve of the new legislature, Fatmir Mediu confirmed talks with the Democratic Party, which keeps the transfer market of MPs within the opposition camp open. For the Republican leader, the configuration of the opposition in Parliament is not only done for the purpose of obtaining the benefits enjoyed by the parliamentary groups.
"We have held consultations. The idea is to have two or three parliamentary groups that function with common opposition goals and positions. There cannot be parliamentary groups that are created simply to give space to speak, but to act jointly. The positions held at the meeting of the Presidency of the Assembly and the Assembly hall have value when there are different parliamentary groups if they are positions that are coordinated with each other," Mediu said for Top Channel.
Sali Berisha must hurry to provide a solution not only to the dilemma of the parliamentary groups, but also to the relationship that the Democratic Party will have with the new Assembly, which in the conviction of the chief democrat is the product of an electoral farce.
But, at a time when the Democrats are still unclear about the September agenda, outside the blue courtyard, there is no shortage of ideas about what the opposition's relationship with parliament should be.
"That it is an electoral farce is clear and is also proven by the OSCE/ODIHR report, but I think that the opposition has its duty to return Albanian parliamentarism to a legal and constitutional basis. And it has been proven that any kind of boycott has never been effective. And within this, it must be tough because we are dealing with an unacceptable situation, but it must be logical so that Albanians understand it as well as possible," said the head of the PR.
The opposition coalition managed to secure only 50 mandates in the elections. Sali Berisha decided to shelter his allies on a safe list, which if all of them were put together would reach the number 7, which constitutes the minimum quota for forming a parliamentary group, but the doctor decided to give the greatest honor to Ilir Meta.
The equation for creating other groups becomes more difficult because, in addition to the Republicans and the Agrarians, the Democratic Party alliance also includes the representative of the Greeks, Vangjel Dule, and Mesila Doda of the Chams.
