The three names proposed by the Vetëvendosje Movement for speaker of the assembly in this Sunday's constitutive session failed to secure the necessary 61 votes.
LVV initially proposed the acting Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, even though he did not 'qualify' in the previous session, causing him to be defeated again. Out of 106 MPs present, Murati received only 55 votes in favor, 46 against and 5 abstentions.
Even the second proposed name, Arbërie Nagavcin, the acting Minister of Education, was defeated with 55 votes in favor, 47 against and 4 abstentions.
Even Dimal Basha failed to get the necessary votes as 57 voted in favor, 25 against and 24 abstained. The next constitutive session will be held on August 26, at 11:00.
This was the third unsuccessful attempt since the Constitutional Court's decision, which stipulates that candidates can only be put on the ballot up to three times and that voting must be open.
