An Azerbaijani Airlines passenger plane, flying from Baku to Grozny, Russia, crashed in western Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan's Transport Ministry said on December 25. Authorities said several people survived the crash.

"A plane flying from Baku to Grozny crashed near the city of Aktau. The plane belongs to Azerbaijani Airlines," the ministry said in a post on Telegram.

Azerbaijan Airlines, the country's main airline, said the Embraer 190 aircraft made an "emergency landing" about 3 kilometers from Aktau, which is a gas and oil hub on the Caspian Sea.

Meanwhile, footage has been released of the moments when survivors emerge from the crashed plane.

Media reported that the Azerbaijan Airlines plane changed its route due to fog in Grozny.

Kazakhstan's Transport Ministry said there were 67 passengers and five crew members on board.

According to this ministry, based on initial information, 25 people have been rescued and 22 of them have been taken to hospital.
