Kazakh authorities have provided details about the air crash that occurred this morning, where a plane traveling to Russia crashed into the ground and burst into flames.
It is reported that of the 67 people on board, including staff, 39 are suspected to have died.
"According to preliminary information from the Azerbaijani side, there were 62 passengers and five crew members on board," the Ministry of Transport said, adding that 28 people survived the crash.
Many of them are hospitalized where they are receiving necessary medical assistance, including two children.
Kazakhstan's Deputy Health Minister told ABC News that some of those sent to the hospital are in critical condition.
Kazakh authorities have launched an investigation into the crash, focusing on several possibilities, such as a bird strike, a technical defect or being forced to divert due to adverse weather conditions.
Among the passengers were 37 Azerbaijani citizens, six from Kazakhstan, three from Kyrgyzstan and 16 from Russia, the Transport Ministry said, adding that these were preliminary data.
Azerbaijan Airlines said in a post to "X" that the plane made an emergency landing about 2 miles from Aktau.
