Osmani says to Kurt: Let's not gamble with Kosovo's alliances with the
Vjosa Osmani

The President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani held today the annual address in the Assembly, under the boycott of PDK and AAK, who have stated that they will not participate in the session as they claim that the President of the State has behaved with a disturbing failure to fulfill her constitutional role and function .

In her annual address, President Vjosa Osmani emphasized that state policy should reflect Kosovo's long-term interests and not temporary ones that are related to election campaigns or political benefits.

In what was seen as a direct address to Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who was sitting behind her back, Osmani asked not to play with the fate of Kosovo's alliances with the US and the EU.

"No nation has succeeded alone and no country has succeeded in isolation, therefore the importance of maintaining and strengthening alliances is invaluable, political history teaches us that weakening alliances or partnerships is a strategic mistake. Working together with those who helped us to have freedom and the state is never subjugation or blackmail. I firmly believe that our greatest strength lies precisely in our partnerships. Alliances between states are bigger and more important than any of us as politicians or any election party. They are the cornerstones of our successes and an investment in a future where Kosovo will be an equal member of the Euro-Atlantic community of free nations. The alliances are here to protect us, therefore putting them at risk, gambling with them or undermining them undermines the very defense of our Republic" , said Osmani.

Osmani then said that today more than ever "we need what is known as constitutional patriotism, which goes beyond political divisions and returns to the basis of our citizenship".

"At the core of constitutional patriotism is the belief that our constitution is more than a legal document. It is a social contract that embodies our ideals and high aspirations. It guarantees freedom, justice and equality before the law for all citizens regardless of differences. And here principles are not only legal obligations, but also an act of patriotism that strengthens the foundations of our state. In these turbulent times for the globe when fragmentation and division are becoming more and more evident our loyalty to the principles of our Constitution is what should unite us. This form of patriotism transforms the individual obligation into a civic duty in the function of protecting the democratic order, in the function of protecting every inch of our Republic. Today, security is a genetic prerequisite for increased well-being, economic development and individual and collective dignity. In this journey, what best proves our development and maturity is the moment when we make sure that our policies reflect what is right and not what is politically convenient. What is right, not what sounds good. What is in the long-term state interest and not in the interest of the votes of a party of elections. What elevates our country and not what only elevates the numbers in the polls. Foresight is what has always distinguished true leaders. Not only in Kosovo, but everywhere in the world", said Osmani further.

In her speech, Osmani drew attention to her statement when she proposed that the association draft be discussed with the USA and not be left to Lajcak or others who do not believe in the independence of Kosovo.

"When I proposed that the association draft be started to be discussed with the USA, so that this issue is not left to Lajcak or others who do not believe in the independence of Kosovo, this did not mean that I am asking establishment of the association, but it meant that I trusted myself and America more than some bureaucrats from non-recognizing countries, I believed that a draft statute that protects the constitution, protects sovereignty, protects our borders and the functionality of the state is protected, it is better to draw it up by ourselves, who have received a mandate to protect Kosovo, than by some "external experts", who have never believed in the project of an independent, sovereign and free Kosovo".

According to her, this proposal of hers was called national treason, and shows the two key points of this proposal.

"Unfortunately, this proposal of mine was then hit in the lowest way, with all kinds of slanders up to slanders of national treason. And where are we today? We are at the exact moment where the same is being requested, so that we will draw up the draft. But, as is well known, the right decisions must be made at the right time. The same is happening these days, with all kinds of low slander that the President is asking for "unilateral signing of the agreement". This is a lie. What I have said is that 1/ the implementation of the agreement makes sense only if it is implemented by both parties, and 2. As an alternative, as the president of the country, I believe that if it is finally seen that Serbia will not implement its part of the agreement, which I I believe he will not, even if he signs it, then we would have to discuss with our allies, the implementation of our part only in exchange for international guarantees that include membership in NATO and international organizations, security guarantees through the BSA, as well as support for new acquaintances. To put it bluntly, for me, the signature of the President of America is more important than the signature of the President of Serbia. I hope I am clear enough."

In the end, Osmani left without shaking hands with Prime Minister Albin Kurti or Deputy Prime Minister Donika Gërvalla. And as usual there weren't that many bouquets of flowers for her. Only the head of the Assembly, Glauk Konjufca, shook Osman's hand. While the independent deputy Haki Abazi, during the moment of Osmani's departure, shouted "hajna, hajna".
