Spain has decided to legalize about 900,000 immigrants at a rate of 300,000 immigrants per year. The Minister of Migration Elma Saiz has stated that this measure is supposed to solve the labor force crisis in the country.

"Spain must choose between being an open and developed country or a poor and closed country. We have chosen the first", said Minister Saiz, according to which Spain needs 250,000-300,000 employees and taxpayers every year.

The reform in question consists of simplifying the legal and administrative procedures for securing work permits, enabling immigrants to register either as self-employed or employed.
