Talks between the US and China on a trade deal stall

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said that trade talks between the United States of America and China have "stalled".

He made the comments after the trade deal reached between the world's two most powerful economies earlier this month, as both sides had agreed to cut tariffs.

"I think when we consider the importance of the talks, their complexity, it will require the leaders of both countries to interact with each other," Bessent said.

Both the US and China had confirmed that they would cut tariffs imposed against each other's imports earlier this month, as a product of trade negotiations in Switzerland. As part of the agreement, both sides had canceled some specific tariffs and suspended other tariffs for 90 days.

Bessent has announced that talks on another agreement have lost momentum, but emphasized that they are continuing.
