Sweden's new Health Minister, Elisabeth Lann, collapsed in front of the cameras during her first press conference, minutes after being officially introduced in the presence of Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and other government officials.
Lann, a member of the Christian Democratic Party, suddenly lost consciousness and fell, hitting her head on the podium. The party chairwoman, Emba Bush, and her colleagues rushed to her aid, while security personnel immediately provided first aid. The minister was taken out of the room for a medical check-up, and the press conference was canceled.
A short while later, Lann reappeared and tried to calm the crowd, stating: "It wasn't a normal Tuesday, but this is what can happen when you have low blood sugar."
It is not known whether she required further medical attention, but there were no apparent injuries. Reporters at the scene reported that her fall initially appeared serious.
