Powerful explosions in Doha

Explosions were heard today and smoke was seen rising over the Qatari capital, Doha, the AFP and Reuters news agencies reported.

Meanwhile, through a statement, the Israeli military confirmed the attacks, saying it carried out a "precision strike" targeting senior Hamas leaders.

"Prior to the attack, measures were taken to mitigate harm to civilians, including the use of precision munitions and additional intelligence," the statement added.

Meanwhile, an Israeli official confirms that the attack in Qatar targeted senior Hamas leaders.

Also, a Hamas official told the BBC that the Hamas negotiating delegation was targeted during its meeting in Doha.

US President Donald Trump "approved Israel's attack" targeting the leadership of the Palestinian Hamas movement in Doha, the capital of Qatar, a senior Israeli official said, quoted by the news website "Inn", adding that "there was consensus between the political and security leadership".

Qatar is considered a major political and financial supporter of Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, and shelters several members of the Palestinian Islamist movement's leadership.
