"X-Factor" contestant dies on the war front in Ukraine

An "X-Factor" contestant who volunteered on the front line at the age of 13 has been killed during the fighting in Ukraine.

21-year-old Saveliy Fedan performed his song "Ukraine" in the ninth season of the Ukrainian version of the music competition, when he was only 16 years old.

He trained at the Odesa Military Academy before joining the army, Energodar chairman Dmytro Orlov said in a social media post.

"He should have a long and happy life ahead of him. But the boy's life was cut short by the war. We share the pain and express our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones," he wrote.

His death was also reported by the military boarding school, Zaporizhsky Regional Lyceum, which Orlov said the soldier attended.
