Miroslav Lajcak is ending his mandate as EU mediator for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. He is ending a 5-year mandate accompanied by opposition, especially from the political side in Kosovo, for his partiality in the dialogue process between the parties, which was also expressed in his last meeting with several MEPs, while the implementation of agreements or the dialogue did not see any progress during his mandate.
Peter Sorensen officially starts work as the EU's designated dialogue representative on February 1. What analysts are optimistic about in terms of the dialogue process is the fact that Peter Sorensen will be tasked solely with the dialogue process, which is expected to begin with a high-level political meeting, possibly between Vučić and Kurti.
Sorensen is a career diplomat who knows the region well. He has been involved in Serbia, North Macedonia and Kosovo with UNMIK, which has created a good perception of his figure since it was rumored that he would be one of the contenders to replace Lajcak.
The new EU envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Peter Sorensen, is 57 years old from Denmark. His background has created expectations of equality in the dialogue and is also expected to reduce tensions between envoy Lajcak and claims from politics in Pristina, which often accused the Slovenian of holding a position similar to his country's, which does not recognize the state of Kosovo.
