Germany has imposed a ban on entry into the country and all political activity for former Finance Minister and MeRA 25 head Yanis Varoufakis along with two others.

According to a reaction from Varoufakis' party, the ban on his entry and all his activity to Germany was made following his calls for a ceasefire in Gaza and a "genocide against Palestinians" ban.

Reaction of Varoufakis' party:

"The democratic deficit in Europe is getting bigger and bigger, it is time for democratic citizens to take a stand against a Europe that is plunging back into darkness," the party said in a statement.

Today, Germany's Interior Ministry issued a "Betätigungsverbot" (activity ban) against Yanis Varoufakis and two other academics after police raided the conference on Palestine, which was to be held in Berlin.

This implies not only banning entry into Germany but also participation and online activity at political events in the country, with the German government crossing all boundaries of authoritarianism.

The other two people detained are academic Salman Abu Sita and surgeon, Chancellor of the University of Glasgoa Ghassan Abu Sita, who was arrested and subjected to a three-hour interrogation at Berlin airport.

The two, along with Yanis Varoufakis, were to attend the Conference on Palestine organized by "Jewish Voice for Peace" and MeRA25 Germany, with a demand for a ceasefire and an end to the genocide in Gaza.

The democratic deficit in Europe is getting bigger and bigger. Germany, first of all, knows best what risks this attitude poses. It is time for democratic citizens to take a stand against a Europe that has been plunged into darkness once again," mera 25 said.
