Germany has decided to donate a Patriot defense system to Ukraine after repeated requests from President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The issue of Ukraine's air defense was also raised in the European Parliament. There are currently about 100 U.S.-made systems in Europe, but they are considered vital to ukraine's military in an effort to shoot down Russian missiles, attacks that are becoming increasingly intense.
"Germany will supply Ukraine with another Patriot air defense system. President Zelensky informed me today by phone about the massive Russian airstrikes on civilian energy infrastructure. We stand steadfast on the side of Ukraine," German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said.
Ukraine is believed to have had about eight such systems available after the Russian invasion, while three or four were suspected to have been destroyed during Russian attacks.
