Moments of panic were recorded near the White House after a 21-year-old gunman opened fire on US Secret Service agents, causing chaos in the security area. The incident occurred on Saturday evening in Washington, while CBS News reporter Aaron Navarro was reporting live from outside the White House. The moment the shooting began, the journalist took off his headphones, immediately sat on the ground and tried to protect himself, while the camera continued to film the entire dramatic scene.
The footage quickly spread on social media and went viral on the Internet. According to US authorities, the perpetrator of the attack, identified as Nasir Best, opened fire at a Secret Service checkpoint outside the presidential compound. Agents responded immediately, neutralizing the perpetrator after an exchange of fire.
At the time of the incident, President Donald Trump was in the White House, but according to a Secret Service spokesman, he was not in danger and did not suffer any injuries.
White House sources said Nasir Best had previously had problems with authorities. In July 2025, he was arrested after attempting to enter the White House and was later sent to a psychiatric facility due to mental health issues. In his response on the Truth Social network, Donald Trump thanked security agents for their quick and professional response. “I thank the excellent Secret Service and law enforcement agents for the quick and professional action they took tonight against a gunman near the White House who had a history of violence and a possible obsession with our nation’s most revered building,” the Republican said via Truth Social.
