The European Union will deploy aid for 400 million euros to Slovenia, severely damaged by the floods of the last few days, which took the lives of at least 6 people.
The news was given by the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who was personally on a visit to the areas most affected by the floods.
"We will allocate 400 million euros from the Solidarity Fund, 100 million this year and 300 million next year. The Slovenian government will also be able to draw €2.7 billion in financial aid from the next EU Fund and €3.3 billion from the Cohesion Fund," von der Leyen said.
During this visit, Von der Leyen was accompanied by Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob, who reiterated once again that the situation in the country is alarming as tens of thousands of houses have been flooded leaving these families without a shelter.
According to Golob, the floods that engulfed Slovenia during the past week were the worst in the last 30 years and turned 2/3 of the country's territory into a large lake.
