Today, August 19, the Assembly of Montenegro will hold a vote of no confidence in the Government of the Prime Minister, Dritan Abazovic. The hearing is scheduled for 11:00.
Abazovic himself will participate in it with the ministers of his cabinet. To overthrow the Government, which until now has functioned as a minority, the votes of at least 41 deputies, out of a total of 81 in the Assembly, are necessary.
The initiative to overthrow the Government, presented by the Democratic Socialist Party of the president of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, and a part of other parties, is a sign of dissatisfaction with the decision of Abazovic to sign the Basic Agreement with the Serbian Orthodox Church. This agreement was assessed as harmful to the national interests of the state.
The initiators have also assessed that the Government had a priority task of reforming the judicial system and strengthening the rule of law, so as to accelerate the process of European integration.
"Due to Abazovic's irresponsible behavior, resulting in increased tensions in society, and potentially irreparable loss of time to fulfill obligations from our European agenda, the Government has lost its legitimacy," the initiative said.
Some parties do not have a clear position
It is unclear what will be the epilogue of the parliamentary session, because the Democratic Front, pro-Serb and pro-Russian, the Democrats of Alleksa Beçiçi, the Bosnian Party and not even a part of the Albanian national parties, do not have a clear position on the initiative for the overthrow of the Government. A portion of their votes - at least five - are needed to topple the Government.
Prime Minister Abazovic himself has not been able to declare with certainty whether the Government will survive or be overthrown in this parliamentary session.
He has repeatedly warned that if the Government "survives the vote", he is ready to rebuild the Government the next day, in agreement with the Democratic Front, which is currently in the opposition, as well as with the Democrats and other parties that want to be included in the leadership.
Whose votes are safe?
"Prime Minister Abazović's government has repeatedly shown its inability to protect itself from internal destructive political influences, which led to mutual distrust and difficult confrontations within the Government itself. This caused uncertainty and extremism of the situation in Montenegro. "
The opposition parties have not explained why they have proposed a new date for discussing the overthrow of Abazovic's Government, when on Friday, August 19, something like that will be voted on.
The two initiatives for the overthrow of the Government of Abazovic have been signed by a total of 68 deputies of the ruling and opposition parties, out of 81 deputies who are in the Assembly of Montenegro./REL
