Home Affairs Secretary Suella Braverman said she was considering all options to exercise some control over migrants arriving in small boats, including many Albanians.

The Times first reported that the home office was considering fitting asylum seekers with electronic bracelets as part of efforts to prevent the disappearance of migrants who cannot be accommodated in detention centres.

"We are considering all possibilities to exercise control over people who arrive illegally in the country so that later, we can move them to a safe country like Rwanda."

Braverman added that the Illegal Immigration Act, a key part of Sunak's efforts to stop migrant boats in the English Channel, will give them the power to detain and deport illegal immigrants more quickly.

However, with limited capacity to accommodate immigrants, the authorities have been forced to intensify efforts to ensure that people who cannot be detained do not disappear.

Another option, according to The Times newspaper, is to require asylum seekers to report regularly to the Home Affairs Office, in order to secure accommodation or financial support.

Government plans to send migrants to Rwanda have been put on hold after a British court ruled in June that the country could not be considered safe.

The government is challenging the decision in the high court. Updated data suggests that the number of people waiting for a decision on their asylum claim has reached a new record.

Over 175,000 people are awaiting a decision on refugee status, 44 percent more than last year.
