Bolivia's government said on Tuesday it had severed diplomatic relations with Israel, accusing the country of crimes against humanity during attacks on the Gaza Strip.
Bolivia "has decided to break diplomatic relations with the Israeli state as a sign of denial and condemnation of the aggressive and disproportionate Israeli military offensive that is taking place in the Gaza Strip," Deputy Foreign Minister Freddy Mamani said at a press conference.
He added that Bolivia calls for a ceasefire and to end "the blockade that prevents the entry of food, water and other essential elements for life". The Israeli Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Bolivia is among the first countries to cut diplomatic relations with Israel over the war in Gaza in response to the October 7 attack on southern Israel by Hamas militants. Israel says the militants killed 1,400 people and took 240 hostages.
