Yemen's Houthi rebels for the first time claimed missile and drone attacks on Israel.

The Houthis were suspected of an attack earlier this month aimed at hitting Israel by launching missiles and drones over the important Red Sea shipping lane, an attack said to have been intercepted by the US Navy.

In a statement to the media published on social networks, a military spokesman for the Houthi rebels, General Yahya Saree, claimed responsibility for the attack and said that more attacks would follow.

"Our armed forces launched a large number of ballistic missiles and a large number of drones at various targets of the Israeli enemy.

"The Yemeni Armed Forces confirm that this operation is the third operation in support of our oppressed brothers in Palestine and confirm that we will continue to carry out more qualitative attacks with missiles and drones until the Israeli aggression is stopped," he said.
