"Camorra" infiltrates the MUNICIPALITY, 18 people are arrested in
Police operation

The operation against one of the largest Italian criminal and mafia organizations "Camorra" in the city of Caivano has led to the arrest of eighteen people.

The arrests were made as part of an investigation into the infiltration of organized crime into the government and the activities of the municipal administration, dissolved for the mafia by the Council of Ministers last October 16, especially in the management of public works contracts, Italian media write.

The criminal organization managed to obtain confidential information from public administrators regarding the awarding of contracts by municipalities. Nine of the 18 arrested persons were arrested on October 10, the measure of detention for whom has already been replaced by the measure of insurance.

The other 9 people involved are still part of the same investigation: 6 are local building contractors, placed under house arrest, while the others are exponents of local organized crime.

The charges are different, such as: mafia-type associations, serious extortion with the mafia method and crimes against the Public Administration. According to the results of the investigation, in more than one case, public employees acted as intermediaries between entrepreneurs and the Camorra in seeking payment for extortion or withdrawing money.

The entrepreneurs themselves were victims of the demand for extortion, but they managed to get their positions through corrupt funds for compliant municipal administrators and managers. Among the other 9 suspects is Angelino Antonio, considered the head of the Camorra-type criminal group operating in Caivano.
