EU votes: No more gas boilers in apartments. Until when will they be removed?

The European Union has approved the directive that paves the way for a plan to restructure residential buildings starting from those that are less performing. Currently, residential buildings consume about 40% of the energy produced in Europe and emit 36% of the total carbon emissions.

By 2050, according to "Ilsole24ore", the objective is to have zero emissions. Countries will decide which buildings to focus on, aiming to achieve a 55% reduction in energy consumption only by restructuring buildings with poorer energy performance.

Meanwhile, within 5 years, every new building must be built with a project that emits zero carbon. The approved directive stops support for boilers that work with gas, focusing on heating systems with heat pumps or electricity, writes SCAN.

Beyond the restructuring, the directive will have a major impact on the house bonus. Appliances that run only on methane gas would no longer be financially supported starting next year.

But this could create a space for those devices that can run on green gas like biomethane or green hydrogen.

The electrification of heating systems and the use of water-powered heat pumps are considered essential points of the directive that focuses on the use of renewable energies in new buildings with zero emissions.
