Sanctions against platform X could be very strong and reach several billion euros and platform bans.
The European Union could fine, suspend or even ban social media platform X if it fails to comply with EU rules, announced Stephane Sejourne, Executive Vice President of the European Commission (EC).
In an interview with France Inter, he recalled that the commissioner, Hena Virkunen, last week expanded the investigation against Elon Musk, owner of the X platform, formerly known as Twitter.
The EU has rules that will be enforced, Sejoune stressed, adding that the commissioner's report will take into account all the discussions that have taken place in recent weeks, including those about Musk's political intervention in Europe, after he expressed support for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD).
"The sanctions could be very strong and reach billions of euros. Ultimately, this could lead to a ban on Platform X," Sejourne said.
