The outbreak of the pandemic in late 2019 and early 2020, the change of presidency in the US and then the internal situation in which the Democratic Party was involved have put on hold a thousand-dollar lobbying contract in the US.
According to documents handed over by the lobbying company "Sonoran Policy Group" on 20 August 2020 to the State Department, the lobbying contract was the object of 'establishing a strategy against organised crime and narcotics in Albania in co-operation with the opposition'.
"Co-operation with the Albanian opposition to establish a strategy against organised and anti-narcotics crime for Albania, facilitate meetings and communication between the American administration and clients, the commitment of congress and the presidential administration to economic issues, the promotion of free enterprise, work with local and international law enforcement agencies to curb and combat the epidemic of organised crime and any other contract-based duty". It is said in the extract of the contract object that the Sonoran company has handed over to the Justice Department.
The total amount the PD would pay is not made public, as its failure to implement it due to the pandemic has cancelled. The company says it has not received a penny from this because the contract has not been implemented. The reasons are the pandemic that erupted and the events that later unfolded with the 25 April elections and the disbandment of the PD after Sali Berisha's non grata proclamation.
