Arben Ahmetaj

In the daily rush of accusations and counter-accusations that have been pouring in for months now, the idea of a complex political environment with entanglements of great interests is created. But, if one sees the big panorama of the whole debate started with the issue of incinerators, the situation can be simpler and what simplifies the whole equation is only one name; Arben Ahmetaj.

The only link that Ahmetaj has left with the Socialist Party today is the deputy's mandate that he received under its banner. He was stripped of other positions he held in the government and party. But, although "vulnerable" to the accusations, without a weighty position, without political protection and with the accusations and clues that strongly link him to the incinerators through the payments he has benefited from Klodian Zoto, the mention of his name with the incinerator file seems taboo for the opposition.

The opposition has long been invested with daily statements, where sometimes Rama is accused, sometimes Veliaj, sometimes both together and sometimes all the others. The one who is not accused is Arben Ahmetaj. The exact reasons for this are known to the opposition, but this position, which has been repeated for months, adds fuel to the voices circulating in the corridors of the SP, the Government and the opposition itself.

According to these voices, Arben Ahmetaj was the ace up the sleeve of the opposition to overthrow Edi Rama and Erion Veliaj and he tried to do this by handing over the incinerator file, not to the justice bodies, but to the opposition.

The latter took it and used it and continues to use it politically for electoral gains, attacking Rama and Veliaj. This was probably Arben Ahmetaj's plan, a plan that was de-conspired with the publication of documents that raise strong suspicions that he is not only related to the issue of incinerators, but may also be their originator.

On the other hand, the opposition itself more than helping in these denunciations has damaged the file. The first major damage done to the file was the non-inclusion of Arben Ahmetaj among the names that should at least have been interrogated by SPAK on this matter.

The second damage is related to the negative pressure exerted on SPAK and the courts, which under this pressure keep in prison arrest persons who neither threaten the investigations nor destroy the evidence, after they have already been administered. Unfortunately, these judicial decisions have also produced tragic consequences, such as the death in the cell of Enver Sheshi, one of the accused./TopNews
