The Association Pro-Export Albania, representative of textile and footwear companies, reiterated the request for measures to be taken by Albanian institutions, as the sector is going through a very alarming situation.
Pro-Export Albania in a letter addressed to the Minister of Finance and Economy Ervin Mete and the Minister of Entrepreneurship Delina Ibrahimaj emphasize that the exchange rate, the increase in costs, significant lack of liquidity, depreciation of production plants and a number of other problems continue to affect months in the drastic drop in orders and exports.
Due to the difficulties, according to the association, many businesses have closed and others have reduced production lines, risking the reduction of 75,000 jobs.
According to them, the indifference of supportive policies from the government has also had a negative impact.
The representatives of the fashion sector demand the continuation of the dialogue to resolve the situation and prevent similar situations in the future, with the implementation of the Manufacturing package proposed by PEA, which would enable the orientation and transition of the sector into a concrete Made in Albania producer.
For the fifth month in a row, exports of textiles and shoes have followed the shrinking trend. In October, according to data, exports of this group fell 11.4%, which is the highest drop since the pandemic period, when factories closed work due to problems created in the global economy by pandemic restrictions.
