EUROSTAT: Medical examinations, Albania at the bottom of Europe

According to data published by EUROSTAT, Albania is the first country in Europe with the highest percentage of the population aged 16 and over, who have reported unmet needs for medical examination.

Data derived from European Union statistics on income and living conditions estimate that in 2021 there are 13.7% of Albanians who "complain" about this problem. These unfulfilled needs come for reasons such as financial ones, the long waiting list at the health centers or even for geographical reasons, that is, the distance of the health centers from the place of residence of the persons surveyed.

We emphasize that self-reported unmet needs refer to the person's own assessment of whether he or she needed an examination (excluding dental care) but was not afforded medical treatment. "Scan Intel" has analyzed these data to understand how European countries compare to Albania.

According to the figures, this rate ranks Albania in the first place in Europe, while Greece is in second place with 12.5% of people who have stated that they have unmet needs for medical care. After Greece, Slovenia follows in third place with 7.9% and Romania with 6.6%.

Meanwhile, if we analyze the situation at the regional level, Montenegro ranks after Albania with 3.5%. The European Statistics Agency" also has data for Kosovo, although not updated.

Referring to the data published for 2018, Kosovo ranks third after Albania and Greece, with 9.7%. On the other hand, the 4-year history of data for Albania, i.e. from 2018 to 2021, shows that the rate is decreasing until 2020 to increase in 2021 by 3.1 percentage points.

The countries with the lowest rate are Cyprus, Malta and Austria, countries that have met the needs of their citizens for medical examination in about 95% of cases.
