After 10 days of resistance, the miners of Trepca have ended their strike.

Initially, the miners in Artana and Kishnica stopped their strike, and today also those in "Stan Tërg".

The member of the Committee for Economy, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, also indicated that the strike has ended.

"The strike was called off in the early hours of this morning. All the strikers left the mine today at 02:00 in the morning".

The strikers have been in the mine for 10 days, demanding that their demands be met.

The miners who were on strike demanded improved working conditions, regular wages, health insurance and the removal of the head of the company.

During these days, many strikers have sought medical help due to the deterioration of their health.

Miners' salaries in Trepça range from 700 to 900 euros, depending on experience and professional training.

The Trepça metallurgical complex is a joint-stock company: 80 percent of the shares belong to the Government of Kosovo, 20 percent belong to the employees of this company.

Until the 90s, when the political situation worsened, it was considered one of the largest enterprises not only in Kosovo, but also in the territory of the former Yugoslavia. At that time, about 600 thousand tons of ore were extracted from the mines of Trepca per year.

With about 20,000 workers, it is considered the main pillar of the economy of Kosovo and the former Yugoslavia. Today there are about 700 miners.

The miners of the Trepça metallurgical plant today work in dangerous working conditions. In addition to many problems and lack of security, machines older than 50 years are a big concern. The main products produced by Trepça are: lead and zinc concentrate containing silver, gold and other elements.

Until the period before 1990, about 600 thousand tons of ore were extracted from the mines of Trepça.

The decline in production started in the 90s when the then regime of Serbia imposed violent measures in Kosovo, closing almost all enterprises and institutions in the country. However, Trepça was followed by problems even after the end of the war in Kosovo, in 1999.
