The State Department's report on the investment climate today included Sali Berisha and his political acts as a harmful element for the investment climate in Albania. As if to prove this report, Berisha and Meta have been threatening foreign investors in Albania for two days, hoping to arouse uncertainty.

The two opposition leaders who seem troubled about their future, Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta, have joined in a system of fines against big businessmen in Albania and foreign investors, hoping to create uncertainty about the investment climate in the country.

The most flagrant case is the consecutive call, first by Sali Berisha and today by Ilir Meta, to the citizens not to buy real estate in the new project of Durrës, financed by one of the four largest companies in the world in real estate, such as is the Prince's investment group of the United Emirates.

Attempting to create uncertainty in the investment climate in the country and threatening foreign investment is indeed an act of political terrorism which should be investigated.

But from the political point of view, it is a desperate act of thieves, who sit all day and calculate how much money they would have earned if they were in power, with the logic of their fines.

But can Berisha and Meta scare away foreign investments?

Of course not. Every foreign investor coming to Albania is now coming to a NATO country that has opened negotiations for EU membership and that has two anti-Western factors in the market that want to cause unrest. Of course, it is a risk that they have taken into account.

The Prince of the United Emirates project in Belgrade a few years ago was successfully completed within two years and sold whole for the Serbian domestic market.

The Port of Durrës will re-dimension the Albanian economy and the property market, moving Albania to a different standard in relation to the region. Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta know this well and cannot stop it.

They know that they lose the race with the Albanians, if they call on them not to buy there. No one will just listen. They have no real intention to scare the citizens and create confusion in the Albanian market. The Albanian market has known them both as thieves and fines collectors for thirty years. Even the television of Sali Berisha's family has now begun to fine businessmen for "not mentioning the name", a type of mafia blackmail that tries to keep business connected through fear.

But with the Albanians, Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta have lost the game. Albanians are neither blackmailed nor intimidated by them. They even do the opposite of what they say.

Berisha and Meta hope to scare away foreign investors and take a piece of this investment from them. That's all their rant against foreign investment. They hope they can scare someone outside of Albania who doesn't know them.

But luckily for them, they are now more widely known and accepted abroad as internationally certified thieves than at home. That's why they look so desperate when they threaten.
