The fire that engulfed the Blue Eye natural area in Saranda yesterday afternoon continued overnight, although with lower intensity. This morning, the intervention to extinguish the flames is being carried out from the air with a Canadair aircraft and a helicopter, in an attempt to stop the further spread of the flames.
Due to the high risk, authorities have evacuated over 500 tourists from the natural park, while traffic on the Muzinë-Saranda segment has been temporarily closed, as the flames have reached the road. A problematic situation is also reported on the Bistricë-Muzinë road.
Meanwhile, in the village of Pecë, the fire was neutralized during the night, while in the municipality of Finiq the situation remains alarming and in the village of Leshnicë e Poshtme, several homes were destroyed by fire.
For days, the flames have been spreading from one village to another, causing significant damage.
Another large hearth was recorded yesterday afternoon in Poliçan, Berat, where the fire engulfed large areas of forest in mountainous areas and was rapidly approaching homes.
The Ministry of Defense, Civil Emergencies and local structures of all municipalities in the country are on full alert and are cooperating closely with firefighting forces to manage the fires in the territory.
