Due to the problematic fire situation in Dukat i Vlorë, Albania has activated the European Civil Protection Mechanism, requesting EU assistance.
The news was announced by the Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, after visiting the three firefighters who suffered injuries at the Vlora Hospital, who fortunately are in good condition.
Thus, 2 'Candair' aircraft from Greece have arrived to help extinguish the flames.
The minister has also warned that high temperatures will peak on Thursday and Friday.
"These are days that will continue to be difficult in terms of fighting fires, especially in mountainous and forest areas. We have mobilized the European Civil Protection Mechanism so that in the coming days and hours we will also have support from partner countries. There will be days with very high temperatures, with the maximum on Thursday and Friday, according to military meteorology forecasts, so we are on full alert throughout the territory. We will continue to make a situation report in the evening hours regarding the deployment of all forces in these days where the peak of high temperatures is predicted, to be on maximum alert", said Minister Vengu.
The fire in Dukat i Vlorë has reached large proportions and seriously endangers the Llogara National Park.
The fire, which was reactivated 2 days ago, initially appeared about 10 days ago and due to the difficult mountainous terrain, firefighters' intervention remains a challenge.
For this reason, the army helicopter has been activated several times from the air.
