The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime has left in force the security measure of imprisonment for the two arrested in our country who transferred millions of euros from Switzerland to Albania through the "Hawala" system.
Burim Ferizaj and Përparim Kalbaj were left in prison.
As part of this investigation, Ervis Ferizaj was also arrested in Switzerland.
According to SPAK, currency exchange offices and tourist agencies were used to transfer money through the "Hawala" system, which leaves no trace but has a tax of 6% of the value.
According to investigations, the dirty money brought into Albania in hundreds of cases over the last 5 years originated from drug trafficking in Switzerland, where other suspects are being investigated.
The criminal group that laundered and transferred drug money from Switzerland to Albania was dismantled yesterday by SPAK.
According to the Special Prosecution Office, millions of Euros were transferred, but it did not specify an exact amount.
Dozens of members of the criminal group, 3 of whom ran it from Tirana, had set up an entire structure for “Hawala”, a method of transferring money without actually moving physical cash, but one person hands over an amount to a local agent (called a hawaladar), who then informs a colleague in another country to give the same amount to the recipient. Everything is done to leave no trace.
