In Albania, the opposition started this afternoon its protest against the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama. This protest, as declared a day ago by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, who has taken over the leadership of the Democratic Party, "will launch a powerful movement whose main goal is the overthrow of this anti-Albanian regime, the return of Albania to democratic standards, the vote free. Punishing thieves of public property and public funds, smashing organized crime with zero tolerance towards it. Let's remove a person, an anti-Albanian, an enemy of our national being, of the freedoms of Albanians, from power as soon as possible".
The protest, in front of the government headquarters, is also organized by the Freedom Party (former Socialist Movement for Integration) which is led by former president Ilir Meta. He has repeatedly accused the government which, according to him, "is immersed in shameful scandals, hitting the country's perspective and killing the hope of young people". Shortly before the protest, he said that "he who sleeps in democracy wakes up in democracy".
Prime Minister Edi Rama is considered responsible for the continuous departure of Albanians from the country, especially young people. For this reason, part of the scenography of the protest is a raft with the flag of Great Britain. The emigration of Albanians to this country recently led to a strong reaction by Prime Minister Edi Rama to some British authorities who spoke of "an invasion by the Albanians".
In some leaflets distributed before the protest, the Democratic Party has also presented what it considers the "anti-crisis package", proposing 10 main interventions, from "doubling salaries and pensions, halving social security for farmers, reducing the price of energy for families and businesses, the interception of oil taxes, a moratorium on constructions, the cancellation of illegal contracts and an uncompromising fight against organized crime and corruption".
Prime Minister Edi Rama has shown himself indifferent to the opposition's protest. A few days ago he declared to journalists that "we have no minute to lose with the protest called by those who have received half a million dollars to make protests of this nature in the past. Time will show that their connections with Russian liquidity haven't been cut off, you'll see." He expressed "sorry for all those who will go behind their backs thinking who knows what they are going behind their backs for, but they are just pulling their noses"./ Voice of America
