Abuse at "Agriculture" exposed, millions of lek worth of motorcycles and clothing for veterinarians

The abuse in the file that has led 20 Ministry of Agriculture officials to trial for abuse of office goes beyond the purchase of veterinary preparations for the extermination of locusts and field mice.

In the period 2016-2017, the Ministry of Agriculture purchased 70 motorcycles through a tender procedure, a tender which was part of the investigative file by the Tirana Prosecutor's Office.

This motorcycle you see in the photo belongs to the Japanese brand "Lifan" of the 100\A type. Top Channel has secured a receipt stating that the motorcycle that saved the lives of livestock years ago cost 330.808 million new lekë.

The same motorcycle today costs 110,000 lek and is available from a dealer for 86,000 lek. But in addition to the motorcycle, the veterinarians were also given clothing that made them look like professional bikers.

The total value of which cost Albanian citizens 372,204 lekë. According to this mandate, a helmet costs 480 lekë, a jacket costs 30,000 lekë, gloves cost 2,400 lekë and a bag costs 4,200 lekë.

If we do the math, the entire fleet of white T-shirts cost 26,054,280 lek.

But according to veterinarian Ymer Elezi, instead of expensive motorcycles, the Ministry of Agriculture could use that money to help the veterinary service in a different way, by buying cars instead of parrots.

"The bill is 4 million 300 thousand old lek for 70 motorcycles, if this value of 300 million old lek were to be used to buy a car, it would be better, because a car can't move even 5 people and the work is done in a team rather than by motorcycle, where on many roads it cannot enter," said Ymer Elezi, a veterinarian.

In 2016-2017, the Ministry of Agriculture carried out 7 different tenders with the aim of purchasing veterinary preparations for combating grasshoppers, to combating field mice, and then purchasing equipment for veterinarians, or replacing cows sick with modular dermatosis with healthy animals.

Suspicions of abuses with these tenders have sent 20 employees of the Ministry of Agriculture to court. The investigations were previously conducted by SPAK, which declared incompetence and transferred them to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, and over the last seven months, the Prosecutor's Office came to the conclusion that these are tenders worth 525 million lek. /TCH
