The objects and feelings that made up the family world of Hekuran Cuman, killed at the age of 23 with a stab wound to the throat in a university square in Perugia, have remained in their place, silent, awaiting a return that will never come.
His life was cut short by a stabbing attack at the end of a night out at a university club, which ended in tragedy. A senseless episode of violence for a young man who everyone unanimously describes as "sweet, calm and sociable".
conflict
Hekurani was in Perugia, in Fabriano, with his brother and a group of friends. Something happened in the club: a glance, an involuntary bump, a girl he wanted to flirt with, but who was in a relationship with someone else. It didn't take long for a fight to break out with another group of young people, second-generation Italians (Tunisians and Moroccans), from the Ponte San Giovanni neighborhood of Perugia. The fight was noticed by the club's security staff, who immediately separated the two boys. It seemed to be over, but as the evening drew to a close and the young people began to leave the club, the rivalry flared up again in the square, with the two groups clashing again physically.
attack
Then the unbelievable and tragic happened. A car stopped and a young man, apparently Tunisian, got out, carrying two knives, one long and one smaller. These weapons would never have entered the bar equipped with metal detectors. He was probably called by friends to give him some help, or he went to the car, parked further away, knowing that he would find the knives there.
According to witnesses, the young man showed his two guns to his rivals, then hit Hekurani's brother in the thigh. The 23-year-old rushed to help his brother and received the fatal blow.
This is the dynamics of the event carried out by the police, under the coordination of Deputy Prosecutor Gemma Miliani. This reconstruction has not been confirmed by the footage of the security cameras, since those in the club do not provide useful evidence, while those in the parking lot are out of order. But it is supported by the testimonies of the victim's friends and other young people involved, all interviewed at the police station throughout Saturday. These elements have led investigators on the right path to catch the suspected killer. The search for the weapon used in the crime is also ongoing.

A group of problems
People who were at the club were also interviewed, confirming that it all started inside, where the group of Africans allegedly harassed several people. According to accounts from some of those present, a group of young men, described as known for their "provocative and threatening behavior," began arguing.
"They were going around fighting inside the club, even with people who were completely unrelated to them. I saw them do it several times during the evening ," one girl testified. This behavior is not unusual, according to many clubgoers, who recognized some of the young men from previous parties.
The first fight between Hekurani, his friends and this group broke out in the club's parking lot, around 4 a.m., as they were leaving. Private security officers intervened, seemingly restoring calm. "I saw the first fight, which initially seemed to have been resolved," said a young man who had met Hekurani that evening. So much so that he left.
The peace, however, was very short-lived. A little later, the situation escalated.
"It was a matter of minutes, then someone came crying, screaming that a boy had been stabbed ," a witness explained to TGR Umbria.
When help arrived, there was nothing left to do for the 23-year-old. According to other young people on social media, the atmosphere that evening was already tense.
"My friend and I were there last night. Honestly, we felt so bad that we left after less than two hours," one girl wrote on Instagram. Another university student complained about inadequate security.
pain
Hekurani's parents, Elca and Astriti, appeared at the devastated Perugia police station. The mother, supported by her husband, whispered: " They killed my son. He was the best of all. He never hurt anyone."
Beside them, their youngest son, Samuele, wounded in the same attack, was in a wheelchair. His father, Astrit, said in a trembling voice: " I said goodbye to him just after midnight, then at around 5:00 in the morning they told me he had been killed."
Hekurani, of Albanian origin, was born and raised in Fabriano, where he attended school. He then enrolled at the Panzini Hotel Management Institute in Senigallia and for six years worked as a seasonal waiter at the Hotel Riviera, the same place where his older brother, Denisi, is the chef.
"We are shocked. He was a great guy ," they say at the restaurant.
Reserved and balanced, he loved the gym, tattoos, and his family. His brother, Denis, had recently given him the greatest joy: a grandchild, and Hekurani had just bought a house in San Donato.
A friend wrote on social media:
“His life, a flower that bloomed too soon, has left behind a fragrance of memories and a pain that never fades, a void that is never filled, an absence that is felt every day, every hour, every moment, and that reminds us that life is a precious, fragile and fleeting gift, that must be lived with intensity, passion and love, and that his memory will always remain with us. We, who knew him, join the grief and love of his parents, and remember his smile, his energy and passion. We know that his life, although short, was a precious gift, a gift that made us smile, cry and love, and that his memory will always remain with us, an indelible memory that will accompany us forever. Rest in peace, Hekuran Cumani, may the earth be light.”
