A recent British judicial decision may prevent the deportation to Albania of many young people identified as victims of trafficking.

The decision comes after the case of a 21-year-old Albanian man, who was initially trafficked by a criminal group in Belgium and then sent to Britain, where he was forced to work growing cannabis.

Although he was recognized as a victim of trafficking, he was denied asylum, with the argument that he could safely return to Albania.

But three senior immigration court judges ruled that the young man continued to face real risk from traffickers, even five years after his exploitation.

The court also issued new guidelines that British authorities must consider before deporting male victims of trafficking.

This is with the argument that the country lacks special structures to handle such categories.

According to data presented in court, Albanian boys and young men are now the largest group of trafficking victims in Britain.
