Veliaj faces SPAK in the Special Court, for "Nesti Angoni"

In addition to the trial for which he is being held in prison, the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, will have a new confrontation with SPAK in the Special Court.

This court will review Veliaj's request to launch a criminal investigation for "forgery of documents" committed against Nesti Angoni, the anonymous character on whose document SPAK launched an investigation against the mayor.

At the heart of the review is Erion Veliaj's appeal against a decision by the Tirana Prosecutor's Office to "not initiate criminal proceedings."  

The prosecution decided not to launch an investigation into the complaint filed by Veliaj at the capital's Prosecutor's Office in April 2026, where he requested the identification of the real person hiding behind "Nesti Angoni", claiming that a document had been forged by him.

Veliaj also wanted to verify how Angon's report was filed with SPAK or administered.  

For its part, the Tirana Prosecutor's Office has verified that Nesti Angoni does not appear in the Civil Status register.

In addition, it has reasoned that it has no authority or competence to control the investigations conducted by SPAK and the authenticity of the acts administered by it in the "Veliaj" file.

This decision was appealed by Veliaj to the Tirana Court, which on July 15 decided to declare the court incompetent and send the case for trial to the Special Court.

Currently, the file is in the hands of Judge Erjon Çela, who will set the first date for its review in the coming days.
