At first glance, the Environmental Performance Index (EPI 2026) assessment by Yale University, promoted by Rama and the media close to him, seems like a success: Albania ranks 46th in the world and 1st in the Western Balkans.
But it is enough to open the detailed data of this report itself to understand that this ranking does not come from work well done, but from a natural advantage (energy from hydroelectric plants) that covers failures in every other sector.
Where the hand of the state and politics should be doing its job, Albania sinks to the bottom of the world rankings...
I'm taking them one by one because with this propaganda they have tired us out, selling us soap for cheese.
1. Agriculture: 158th place in the world!
The agricultural sector is among the most scandalous in the entire report. Albania receives only 31.77 points, slipping to 158th place:
There are serious problems with Sustainable Nitrogen Management: 150th place (23.67 points), indicating uncontrolled use of chemical fertilizers... Concern about Phosphorus Surplus: 139th place (40.69 points).
The risk from Pesticides (Pesticide Pollution Risk) has also worsened compared to 10 years ago, raising the alarm for a high risk of chemical pollution in the products we consume. (We know this because pesticide loads above the norm have been caught several times)
2. Polluted Water: 138th place in the world!
While we're talking about elite tourism, wastewater treatment receives a miserable rating of only 12.72 points. The vast majority of urban wastewater continues to flow without any filtration or treatment into rivers, lakes, and the sea.
3. Air Quality: Suffocation from micro-particles.
With only 37.37 points (ranked 88), the air we breathe every day remains an open threat to public health. The old vehicle fleet, construction without any dust standards, and waste incineration cause pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases and premature deaths every year. In 10 years, sulfur dioxide SO2 emissions have worsened dramatically.
4. Biodiversity and Habitats: The destruction of Nature has worsened.
Although Albania is renowned for its natural wealth, the indicators of their protection are alarming:
Biodiversity Habitat Index: 139th place with only 26.35 points.
Bioclimatic Eco. Resilience: 118th place (25.99 points).
Protected Areas (Protected Area Conn. Index): 90th place (20.67 points), shows that protected areas are fragmented and without real protection on the ground. Therefore, we say, cancel Law 21/2024 in 50 days.
Red List Index for Endangered Species: 103rd place (48.69 points, with a regression of -6.07)... so even with that moratorium you mentioned, the real figures are falling.
Here is Edi Rama's propaganda about "46th place in the world and 1st in the region" for the environmental index, where he hides the real environmental catastrophe in Albania.
So enough with the propaganda, it only makes us "crows" more angry.
