Indian prickly pear oil replaces sunflower? 7 million liters for 3 months, the

7 million liters of oil of an Indian thorn have been introduced in Albania in 3 months. Through a "thick" account for 3 million inhabitants, it translates into 2 liters of used oil including immigrants as consumers.

This oil turns out to be cheaper in price than that of sunflower. It also turns out that in no product in supermarkets was this type of oil described on the label labels.

The question that arises is where did 7 million liters of Indian Thorn oil go?

As if the insane price increase were not enough, Albanians who use sunflower oil are likely to be massively deceived by consuming oil from a thorny plant, which enters the Sunflower family, called Safflower Carthamus Tinctorius. It is worth noting that this plant does not pose a risk to the health of consumers, it even has the same properties and data as sunflower and is even used in medicine. But, it is not sunflower oil, a product that is advertised on the labels of products that are massively found in labels and that are imported to Albania at a cheaper price than sunflower oil.

As if that were not enough, from the data of import quantities in our country has entered a very small amount of sunflower oil but oil from the plant Safflower Carthamus tinctorius have been imported quantities 109 times more so 6,982,215 prickly oil and only 15 liters of oil sunflower.

In the official response of the General Directorate of Customs for the quantities and prices and declarations of sunflower oil imported in Albania from January 1 to March 31, 2022 I stated that in our country were imported in 3 months 6,982,215 liters of oil from this type of plant, ie Safflower, Carthamus tinctorius, with customs code according to nomenclature of 2022, 15121990. While referring to the data provided, sunflower oil were imported only 63,723 liters, namely, in January only 15 liters, in February 49,405 and in March, 14,303 liters.

This is a real scandal for Albanians, who seem to pay very high prices for a product that is not even sunflower oil and is imported to our country at a cheaper price and sold expensive.

The same data from customs show that, in January 2002, a liter of oil from the Safflower Carthamus tinctorius plant was imported at a price of 181.38 lek per liter, 174.13 lek per liter and in March 2022 at 205.6 lek per liter. The price of March is 20 lek higher than that of sunflower, but it seems that the "depletion" of resources in Ukraine or other countries, has forced importers to look in other markets, something similar to sunflower oil. While in January and February, the price of this oil at customs has been cheaper.

Dyshimet

It is a branched plant, similar to the thorn and belonging to the sunflower family Asteraceae. It is a commercially cultivated plant for vegetable oil extracted from seeds and has been used since the early Spanish colonies along the Rio Grande also as a substitute for saffron. Safflower is a plant whose seeds are used to produce vegetable oil, as well as sunflower, so it belongs to the group of plants used to produce vegetable oils./Priza.al
