There has long been an urban legend circulating that the new justice system has instilled fear in the hearts of corrupt officials in government, municipalities, and every institution where citizens' tax money is managed.
It's just that the example of Rajmonda Balilaj , the former mayor of Patos who was convicted a week ago for rigging tenders for the city, resembles a mockery that contradicts the spirit of the propaganda that has raised the myth of SPAK and the new justice system.
Balilaj was found guilty of rigging tenders while she was leading the Patos Municipality.
She made a big blunder when she announced on television the winner of a tender with a fund limit of 67 million lek, while the procedure had not yet been officially closed.
From the verifications made by the prosecutors, the process went to court and for this tender, she received the corresponding prison sentence, which the court later converted from prison to 2 years and 8 months of probation.
So, officially the court admitted corruption with tenders in Patos but practically amnestied the senior socialist official.
And she celebrated this amnesty with a trip to the beaches of Mexico, from where she posted several photos, which she shared on social media.
With the photos, the mayor seems to be greeting from the beaches of Mexico not only the prosecutors and judges of the new justice system, but also the citizens who elected her to manage their taxes./ Lapsi.al
