Defamation trial against Gazment Bardhi begins, DP MP does not go to court

The second court session is being held at the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SCAC) in the defamation lawsuit filed by the former director of the Shkodra Police, Edmond Sula, against MP Gazment Bardhi. Bardhi himself is not present at the session but is represented by his lawyers, while former director Sula is present at the session.

At the start of the hearing, Edmond Sula's lawyer stated that his client is not seeking compensation, but only Bardhi's punishment, as he has damaged his image due to the public insult. 

'I declare that they withdraw their request for compensation for the damage caused, but only request the conviction of the accused Gazmend Bardhi for the criminal offenses of insult and defamation committed publicly,' says the lawyer.

The lawsuit concerns statements made by Bardhi during an interpellation on September 12, 2024, in which he alleged that Edmond Sula was appointed by and served organized criminal groups. These statements were widely reported in the media and, according to Sula's defense, have severely damaged his 28-year career in the police, as well as causing negative consequences for his family.

Today's hearing is expected to continue with the examination of evidence and hearing from the parties involved in this case.
